Belgium

With a stunning number of pubs and restaurants, Belgium earns more Michelin stars per capita than anyone else. Flavors are strongly French with a Dutch-German accent. Typical dishes include mussels mariniere, anguilles en vert (eels in green herbs), and waterzooi (chicken cream soup). The Belgians brought the world the endive, the waffle, and limburger cheese; extraordinary chocolates and pastries. Belgian beer is diverse and superb; each type is served in a glass shaped to bring out its flavor. Perhaps most famous is Belgian lambic, fruity, dry and effervescent, and quality-controlled by the European Union.

About me:
I'm currently studying in England, scraping through student life... Contrary to popular belief, not allll students like to live on pasta and baked beans - and I'm proof! I wouldn't say I'm an exceptional cook, but seeing as my student loan can't really support frequent trips to expensive restaurants, I'm going to have to start being a bit more creative in the kitchen...

Cheesy Quinoa Pilaf with Spinach

Reviewed on Aug. 2, 2008 by SunFlower
Amazing recipe, I already plan to make it again soon! How could you go wrong with quinoa, spinach and cheese? I used pine nuts instead of sunflower seeds. To be honest, I don't know if I would have liked it that much if i had used seeds. Then again, I'm nuts on pine nuts!

Vegetable Masala

Reviewed on Jul. 28, 2008 by SunFlower
After reading the other reviews, I made the following changes: 1) used a can of cubed tomatoes instead of fresh ones; 2) added 3/4 cup coconut milk 3) used a red bell pepper instead of carrot. Amazing Indian-style dish! We both loved it and I plan to make it again very soon!
